Library Talk

Our amazing 7th & 8th grade Library Advisory Board came up with the idea of hosting a library talk show to spotlight library events.  They wrote the script and, with the help of the incomparable Dr. Brad Schwall, filmed and directed the first episode.  Here is the debut of Library Talk:

It's Love Your Library Month!

February is Love Your Library Month.  Raiders are celebrating by writing what they love about their library on a graffiti wall, adding to a slide show of favorite book characters, and having photos made with books they love.

Some seventh grade classes visited last week for speed dating with books!  Many met some matches and maybe even their soul mates  ;)

This is a great time to show your love for the library by making a library donation. :) You can come by to select a book from the library’s wish list, or you can visit the library donation page for more details.  Special book plates will be added to the new books commemorating the donation, and donors will be the first to check out these new resources.

Thanks for supporting and loving the Raider Library!

It's Coming Up Bluebonnets!

It's Texas Bluebonnet Award voting time!  Readers in grades 3rd - 6th throughout the state
who have read 5 or more of the nominees are invited to vote for their favorite this month.  The state winner is announced in February and honored at a special luncheon in April at the Texas Library Association Annual Conference.

This year MIS had 169 students eligible to vote for their favorite title.  And our winners are ...

3rd place:
Bake Sale by Sara Varon

2nd place:
The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

1st place:
Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Congratulations to these winning titles and to those Raiders who read enough books to cast their vote  We had several Raiders who read above and beyond the minimum of 5... even some who read all 20!  Bravo to you!

The 2014-2015 Texas Bluebonnet Award nominees are available in the library, if you would like to get started reading for next year's favorite!

Take the Lone Star Challenge!

Are you looking for a challenge?  Do you want to read more in 2014? Do you want to try some new books?  Do you like ice cream??  Then, the Lone Star Challenge is for you!

The 2014 Lone Star List has been announced, and the new books are on display in the library.  This list is published annually and includes 20 books recommended for students in grades 6, 7 & 8.

Raiders who read the 5 of the Lone Star titles get their name on a star on the library windows.  Those who read 10 get their photo on the windows AND an invitation to the ice cream party in May!

If you are interested, come by the library for a reading sheet.  Have a parent or teacher initial for each book you read.  When you have read 5, show Mrs. Bellomy so she can put up your star; then keep reading!  The final sheets are due by May 19.

We are so proud of the many Raiders taking the challenge and of those who have already read 5 or more!  Take a look at the library windows to see who these readers are and give them a big congratulations.
